A few weeks ago, our consultant, David Good, joined Sebago Fiber and Greater Portland Council of Governments (GPCOG) for a special ribbon-cutting event in the Town of Sebago. The gathering was a testament to collaborative efforts in bridging the digital divide, with Sebago select board members, local officials, and Maine Connectivity Authority (MCA) representatives in attendance.
This event marks a milestone in a project that Mission Broadband has proudly supported since 2022, when we were engaged by GPCOG to write, facilitate, and advise on a Request for Proposal (RFP) process on behalf of the Cumberland Oxford Lakes Area Broadband (COLABs) committee. This collaboration is a prime example of whatโs possible when communities and organizations come together to expand access in underserved areas.
After an in-depth selection process, Sebago Fiber was chosen as the ISP partner for the project. Sebago Fiber also received a Partners Enabling Middle Mile (PEMM) grant early this year from MCA to augment their own financial investments in rural broadband, and weโre excited to share that they installed their first Sebago customers this month! Sebago Fiber is on track to bring fiber internet access to over 1,640 homes and businesses in Sebago and surrounding areas by summer 2025. This is just the beginning of expanded connectivity for the area, and we look forward to seeing its positive impact.
